Google have honoured
Lady Ada Lovelace with a
Google Doodle on her 197th birthday. Regular readers of this blog will know that I'm a big fan of this remarkable lady. She was a collaborator of the Victorian mathematician Charles Babbage: translating an Italian paper on his inventions into English (and adding copious notes of her own), and writing the first algorithm for Babbage's Analytical Engine. As a consequence she is often referred to as the "
first computer programmer."
